Students residing within the province of Newfoundland & Labrador

Prospective students living outside the province of Newfoundland & Labrador cannot enroll in the ECE online asynchronous Certificate or Diploma (2nd Year) program. Only students residing within the province, and who meet eligibility requirements, will be considered for admission.


Eligibility for admission to the Early Childhood Education online asynchronous Certificate or Diploma (2nd Year) program requires the applicant to meet one of the following four academic criteria:

  1. High School: Provincial High School Graduation Certificate with a 60% average in eight level 3000 credits or equivalent.
  2. Comprehensive Arts and Science (CAS) Transition: Comprehensive Arts and Science Certificate.
  3. Adult Basic Education (ABE): Adult Basic Education (Level III) Graduation with General College Profile (or Business-Related College Profile or Degree and Technical Profile) with an average pass mark of 60%.
  4. Mature Student Requirements: Applicants who do not meet the education prerequisites for this program, are 19 years of age or older, and have been out of school for at least one year may be considered on an individual basis under the Mature Student Requirements. Applicants currently working in a regulated child care service

Applicants must submit a current copy of the following program documentation:

  • Current certified criminal records check (issued by RCMP) or current criminal records screening certificate (issued by RNC).
  • Current vulnerable sector records check (issued by RCMP/RNC).
  • Current record of immunization or Statement of Immunization .

PLEASE NOTE: Prior to the start of a field placement, students must submit to Student Services, a current copy of at least an emergency level (one day) diploma/certificate in first aid and CPR dealing with children. A list of approved first aid training providers can be found on the Workplace NL website.

Once admitted into the program, a student who does not enroll in courses for six months or more, must re-submit a current copy of all of the above required ECE program documentation.

Applicants not working in a regulated child care service

Applicants must submit a current copy of the following program documentation:

  • Current certified criminal records check (issued by RCMP) or clear criminal records screening certificate (issued by RNC).
  • Current vulnerable sector records check (issued by RCMP/RNC).
  • Current record of immunization or Statement of Immunization
