College of the North Atlantic (CNA) is offering a series of four "Stress and Mindful Wellness" community education courses, which are available to the general public. These courses will help you develop skills to focus on self-care during this unprecedented time. These free-of-charge courses will be offered through CNA's online Distributed Learning (DL) platform.

Creative Energies
(2 Offerings)

April 14 & May 26

You don't have to be an artist or have any creative skills to harness the power of creative energy. In this four session course we invite you to learn and practice a variety of techniques designed to spark your creative energies mentally and physically. Through the practices of meditation, office exercise, poetry and drawing you will learn to exercise your creative energies to unwind and break the cycle of worry and stress.

May 5

In this four session course, we will introduce different techniques designed to help you connect with the "here and now". It is easy to get caught up in day to day tasks and responsibilities. Taking breaks throughout our work day is vital for our physical and mental health. This course invites you to re-focus through guided breathing, movement, unplugging and look at the positive. We will be practicing guided breathing, mindful activities, disconnecting and gratitude journals.

Letting Go and Letting Be

Each of these four, quick, self-care practices are designed to give your mind and body a break and redirect your attention back to the "present". Sometimes we get caught up in the cycle of worrying about something we have no control over or hasn't even happened yet. You will be introduced to the practices of guided imagery, mindful grounding, sleep journals, and other ways to deal with worry.

You're all that and a bag of chips!

June 9

Sometimes we are our own worst enemies and our biggest critics. Negative self-talk and opinion can increase your overall stress levels, distort your thinking and damage your self-esteem. In this four session course we invite you to stop, relax, be nicer to yourself and have a laugh. We will work with progressive relaxation, calming the inner critic, practicing kindness & compassion and the value of laughter.

Each segment will be available for a four-week period, and participants will be able to log in and access courses at leisure. They can be completed in a day, or ideally, practiced every day for that four-week period. These courses are designed to redirect your attention back to the present and the things you can control. They are easy to follow and best of all, no exams and no marks! These courses are self-directed and there is no pressure or requirement for you to participate on online discussions.
