DEFERRED EXAM REQUEST


 

Students who are prevented by illness, bereavement, or other extenuating circumstances from writing a final examination, where one is scheduled, may apply for permission to write a deferred examination. The deferred examination is the final examination for the individual concerned.

A deferred examination application must be submitted within two (2) days after the date on which the regular examination was scheduled. The request for a deferred exam will be assessed by campus administration or designate in consultation with faculty members. Students should note that permission to write deferred examinations is a privilege, not a right, granted solely based on extenuating circumstances.

Deferred midterms are normally written within two weeks of the last scheduled midterm exam, one week in Intersession. Where possible, deferred final exams should be completed by the last day of that semester, or as soon as feasible thereafter, but shall be no later than one week into the subsequent semester. All fields are mandatory. Requests received with incomplete information will not be processed. Incomplete requests will be returned to the student for resubmission.

A deferred exam may be requested if:

  • you have an exam conflict - two exams scheduled for the same time slot.
  • you have three (or more) exams scheduled within one 24-hour period.
  • you have fallen seriously ill (documentation required).
  • a death has occurred in the immediate family (documentation such as obituary, death announcement, funeral liturgy required).
  • you encounter extenuating circumstances (assessed on a case-by-case basis)

In-person supervised exams will be written at the CNA campus nearest you. Exams written in the St. John's area are written at Prince Philip Drive campus.
