The following is a list of courses which may be offered during Intersession 2019 semester to new ECE DL students and students currently enrolled in the ECE program by Distributed Learning, subject to sufficient enrollment.  Course dates are May 6 - June, 2019.

Eligible students must complete an ECE Placement Intent to Register for Field Placement form and submit by April 5, 2019 to be considered for a field placement. Field placement spaces are limited. Submitting an ECE Placement Intent to Register form does not guarantee a placement for current semester. Once the form is submitted, students will be contacted directly regarding status of their field placement request.

Which course should I register for?

When do I register for courses?

You cannot register for your courses until all required documentation is obtained by the college. Please note that some courses require that the learner be either volunteering or working directly with children in an approved early childhood setting. See the CNA calendar for a list of courses with this specific requirement.

  • Course registration is subject to availability at time of enrollment. Some course sections are limited in size.

Registration process:

  1. To view course selections for current semester, visit http://dls.cna.nl.ca/ece/Course Registration Information.htm.

  2. Select courses. If you have any questions about course selection, please contact Lori Chaulk, ECE Manager at (709) 758-7379 or lori.chaulk@cna.nl.ca.

  3. If you wish to submit a Prior Learning Assessment Recognition (PLAR) application form for any course you are registering for this semester, complete this PLAR application form. Deadline for in-semester PLAR applications is April 5, 2019.

    The online PLAR application must include detailed information on the reasons for applying for PLAR
     (e.g., extensive work experience related to that topic, with examples, must be included on the online application form).

    ECE Placement Intent to Register form must be submitted by April 5, 2019.

  4. Register and pay for your fees and charges through the Student Self-Service option http://dls.cna.nl.ca/current/registration.shtml  You may also pay at your nearest campus.

  5. Submit completed Confirmation of Learner Status Form to Jennifer Burge in Learner Services. You may email this form to her at Jennifer.burge@cna.nl.ca or fax it to (709) 758-7304. This document must be submitted each semester. Please note that your employer must fill out Section 2 of the form if you are employed in a licensed child care setting.

  6. Payment must be made prior to registration. (see Step #3 below for information on payment)

How do I pay for courses?

Course fees are $160 per course for ECE DL courses.  Students are not permitted to register if there is an outstanding balance on their account.

To make a payment, please do the following:

  1. Log in to the Student Self Service page https://ps9-web1.cna.nl.ca/psp/CSHRPRD/?cmd=login&languageCd=ENG&
  2. User name: your student number (noted above)
  3. Password:
    1. If this is your first time logging into the College network, use your birth date which must be entered in the appropriate format dd-Mmm-yyyy ; (e.g. 12-Jan-1994) or d-Mmm-yyyy (e.g. 1-Jan-1994) NOTE: Do not use leading zeros if the 'day' is less than 10
    2. If you have logged into the College network in the past 180 days then your password will be whatever you set it to when you first logged in
  1. Click on Self Service link in the Menu list
  2. Select the Campus Finances link
  3. Select the Make a Payment link
  4. Enter a Payment Amount
  5. Press the Next button
  6. Confirm Payment by pressing the Continue to Make Payment button – you will then be re-directed to a third-party collection site for College of the North Atlantic
  7. To Pay via Credit Card:
  8. Enter Cardholder Name
  9. Enter Credit Card Number
  10. Enter Expiry Date (MMYY)
  11. Enter Email Address (to receive email confirmation of payment)
  12. Press the Pay with Your Credit Card button
  13. The transaction will complete in a few seconds and you will be displayed a receipt of your payment.
  14. If you are done using self-service please click the logout link at the top right of the page.
  15. If you are unable to access the Self Service site please contact the helpdesk at SSHelpReg@cna.nl.ca.

How do I order textbooks?

Textbooks can be ordered on-line.  For a current list of textbooks and ordering information go to http://dls.cna.nl.ca/current/textbooks_orders_current.shtml

When and how do I access my course?

For Intersession 2019, classes will start May 6, 2019. Login to your course via this website -  http://dls.cna.nl.ca/index.shtml

It is your responsibility to login at the beginning of the semester.  You will not receive any additional notice of course start

Accessing your Course

Accessing your course(s) is a simple, two-step process.

Step 1: Activate Your CNA Account Using Webmail

Setting up your CNA webmail is the first step in activating your account and must be completed prior to course login. Follow the step-by-step instructions provided on the Accessing your Course page.

You will be expected to use this secure email account for all correspondence with the Office of Distributed Learning. Important information regarding scholarships and awards, exams, etc. will also be sent to this account. Once set up, your address will be in the format of firstname.lastname@ed.cna.nl.ca. Be sure to check your webmail on a regular basis. A link is provided on the main menu bar of the DL website as well as on the My Home page.

Step 2: Log into Your Online Course(s)

Once you have successfully activated your account, you can then proceed to log into your online course(s). Again, detailed instructions are provided on the Accessing your Course page.

Registering for Exams/Invigilation

All supervised exams are to be written at a DL approved location. It is important that you notify us of your location by completing the online Exam Registration Form.

How do I drop a course?

If you drop a course after registration, it is essential that the appropriate process is followed; otherwise you will be charged for course costs and will receive a grade of NP (equivalent to 0).   This may be done online at: https://dls.cna.nl.ca/forms/CourseWithdrawal.aspx

How will I receive information from the College?

All registered learners have a CNA email account. Correspondence with learners will only be through CNA email accounts, not through other personal email addresses.  Please check your CNA email account regularly throughout the semester.

Please note:  Individuals must apply and be accepted into the ECE Program by Distributed Learning prior to being permitted to register for courses.  For information on program admission, please refer to Applying to the Program.

Learners who have not registered for 6 months or more are required to reapply for admission into the program.  Those readmitted will be registered in the program that is current at the date of readmission.
